Vi har nu utvecklat en första version av vår app Quizen och innan vi fortsätter – det finns att göra ännu 😊 – vill vi nu göra den tillgänglig för er att testa, så vi kan förstå mer av vad som funkar respektive vad som behöver förbättras.

• Det kommer att finnas utrymme för förbättringar – både avseende funktion samt med frågorna – och vi hoppas Du är med på resan, med start nu
• Vi jobbar med Quizen på kvällarna (på dagtid viktigt konsultarbete) så responstider om ni har frågeställning eller snabbheten med vilket vi kan åtgärda/förbättra saker, kan upplevas som lång ibland
• Quizen bygger på automatgenerering av frågor och svarsalternativ. Detta innebär stor potential framöver (se nedan) samt en del utmaningar (se nedan). För stunden är ämnen kring musik och film hyfsat ok men många ämnen har inte tillräckligt med frågor ännu. En del repeterar även samma typ av frågor då vi inte hunnit med logiken för dem. Testa gärna lite extra inom musik (kanske något musikband) och givetvis också annat, fast med beredskap att det kan bli noll träffar ibland.
• Förutom Weekly Challenge and Quick Play (som båda är frågor brett över ämnen) går det att söka bland ett antal så kallade Kategorier samt Ämnen.
  • Kategorier är t ex frågor inom kategorin 1800-talspoeter och ger då breda frågor där ämnet är eller har med 1800-talspoesi att göra.
  • Ämnen ska tänkas på som t ex ett musikband, författare eller skådespelare och inte ämnen som i matematik eller annat allmängiltigt område.

Quizen verkar vid första anblick vara en relativt vanlig quizapp, och det är nog sant till stor del just nu. Men bakom de funktioner du ser och de frågor du får finns en mycket stor databas där frågor genereras automatiskt. Detta erbjuder en möjlighet för oss att låta användare tävla över språkgränser, skala upp med nya funktioner och spellägen som t ex bild- och musikfrågor eller kanske skapa någon slags never-ending-quiz där en fråga och svar leder till nästa.

Men en datadriven app av detta slag bär också med sig ett antal utmaningar som t ex att beräkna lämplig svårighetsgrad på frågor eller successivt filtrera bort konstiga frågor och/eller svarsalternativ (data är inte alltid perfekt när man har miljoner ämnen och miljarder relationer). Vi har gjort en grund, men behöver nu lära oss mer samtidigt som vi skriver ytterligare logik för att generera fler frågor, bygga ut olika typer av filter och kan successivt aktivera fler ämnen, kategorier mm.

Vi ser på Quizen – och den snart släppa Quizen Party (en realtidsquiz) – med uthållighet men det är ändå nervöst att släppa ut appen då det finns så mycket vi ännu kan och ska göra. Men viktigast av allt tror vi ändå är att våga ta intryck av vad användare vill/önskar så vi gör rätt saker framöver. Därför hoppas vi att Du vill ladda ned appen och använda den så mycket du kan. Vi analyserar beteendemönster generellt så bara genom att använda den hjälper du oss. Du får gärna även skriva idéer och tankar till oss via Facebook eller Instagram.

Om vi gör rätt saker framöver hoppas vi så småningom kunna erbjuda en quizapp där frågorna aldrig ”tar slut” och där kreativa spellägen med text- bild- och musikfrågor gör det möjligt att tävla och lära själv som mot/med andra.

We have now completed a first version of our app Quizen and we want to make it available in a beta version so we can learn what we need to focus on the most.

• We know many things can be improved, both regarding functionality as well as the generated questions, so we hope you will be patient with us on this journey.
• We work with Quizen outside office hours as we have important consultant work during the day, so response time as well as time to correct and improve things might be longer than we would like.
• Quizen is designed to auto generate questions and answer alternatives. This means it has a very large potential to scale the number of game modes and experiences for the user, but it also presents a few challenges. As of now, topics around music and film is reasonably okay. But for many other topics, more work is needed to assure good/qualitative/variety of questions. So you might not always find what you want or even get the best questions, but try searching for a music band/artist or an film actor. Also feel free to try any other topics but with the expectation that there are still issues present.
• Besides Weekly Challenge and Quick Play (both including questions from several domains/topics), it is possible to search within so called Categories and Topics.
  • Categories includes qustions where the topic or question relate to the chosen category. For example, 19th century poets will generate questions where something in them relate to 19th century poetry.
  • Topics should be thought of as topics you would look up on Wikipedia; like a music band, an author, or a film actor. It is not history or mathematics.

At first glance Quizen looks like any other quiz app, which is also true to a large extent right now. But behind the features you can see and the questions you get, there is a very large database where questions are generated automatically along with correct/wrong answers. This enables us to let users compete over language barriers, to scale with new experiences such as image and music questions, or perhaps create new game modes such as — some kind of never-ending quiz — where one questions and answer generate the next one. Or even a quiz ”picker” where you configure the quiz (for example Music + 80s + Sweden).

But a data driven application also means challanges, such as calculating suitable difficulty levels or how to filter out incorrect questions or alternatives (data is not always perfect when you have millions of topics and billions of relations 😊). We have created a foundation, but now need time and users to learn about what to improve and focus on, as well as tune and scale up the questions (more type of questions, tune difficulty, add more topics etc).

We view Quizen – and the soon to be released Quize Party (a realtime quiz) – as an app as well as experience, that we start expanding on now and need to tune along the way. But the thing is that we have built it to be able to tune, scale, and improve … as long as we know what to focus on. That is why we need You to start using Quizen. We will be able to follow usage patterns to learn from them, and would also appreciate your ideas and thoughts by commenting on our Facebook or Instagram page.

If we do the right things moving forward, we hope to be able to offer a quiz experience where questions never ”run out” and where creative games modes with text, image, and music questions enables you to have fun while learning.
